and Things that are Awesome
So I've kind of stopped even checking this journal, but I wanted to let folks who are still around know that I have an offer of up to three sock animals
on Fandom Aid to raise money for Nepal.
It's a buy-it-now campaign this time, not an auction. Cost ranges from $5-$15, depending on size and complexity of the sock-creature requested. Since I'm failing at keeping up with my Etsy store, this is the best way to get one of my creatures if you're not local to the DC area!
So about a year and a half ago I signed up for an AU big bang. I got a whole rough draft done, then Things happened and I realized I wouldn't be able to get the thing whipped into shape by posting and pulled out during artist claims. I figured I'd come back to it someday, fix it up, and maybe use it for another big bang.
Two problems with that. One: my brain wandered away from the idea and hasn't managed to make it back yet. Two: using the rough from a big bang I had to back out of at a super awkward moment feels really tacky
So, while I signed up for the spn_j2_bigbang
this year under the presumption that I'd just edit this sucker for that, I've given up and am posting it as is.
I present to you, unabridged, untrimmed, unrearranged, in all it's rough-draft glory: Ringwall
Mentions of maiming, government oppression, and terrorism; drug abuse and addiction; some bondage; abuse of invented profanity. Summary:
In early November, 1983, the apocalypse kicked off with a bang and a series of whimpers. More than twenty years later, it's still going on.
The human population of the world has spent the last two decades gathering together in walled cities scattered across the planet, using tricks old and new to ward their new homes and keep out angels and demons alike. The most successful of these, a bustling little city called Perdition, is the home of one Sam West, a war orphan grown up knowing nothing but Perdition and its massive, imposing wall. He's done well for himself, despite his inauspicious beginnings. He's managed to land himself a gig working for Perdition's mayor, and even been given the responsibility to plan out the city's 20th anniversary celebration. Everything seems to be going his way, right up until he spots a strange man on the steps of City Hall, a marked criminal with a shadowed past who's been haunting Sam's dreams for weeks. Dean Winchester seems to stand against everything Sam's been working his entire life towards, so why is Sam so drawn to him, and what, if anything, does he have to do with Sam's mentors' insistence that Sam himself is destined to put an end to the apocalypse? Been meaning to post this for a couple of days now. Reveals are up at spn_summergen

So last night my friend convinced me to try playing "Five Nights at Freddy's" and record my reaction. You will not be seeing the video. But this is how I managed to finally fall asleep last night: Title:

*looks up from comically large, overly ornate tome; smiles, sets aside bubble pipe* Oh, hi there! I didn't see you come in. Welcome to my journal. If you just give me a moment to change out of my smoking jacket and into something more comfortable, we can get on with it with less pretension.
So, you've managed to get my prompts for your spn_summergen
assignment. This is hopefully a lucky thing, as I recall trying to get some good variety and generality in there, so hopefully there's something that catches your eye and gets you excited to write! If there isn't . . . well, then, fuck it and do something fun.
Okay, so not totally literally. This is supposed to be an exchange, which means that you should get at least a little guidance, even if you end up sort of ditching most of the prompty bits. But when it comes right down to it, I'm happy when I can tell the writer really is having a good time, exploring an idea or just letting their imagination run away with them. I especially love it when writers try out something new, even if it's not 100% successful, so feel free to experiment with form or style. I love fic that loves the characters, even the less popular ones, even the little throwaway ones that don't seem to matter.
Sunshine and rainbows aside: I am an unapologetic Dean!girl. Sam's neat and all, but I tend to read/watch his solo scenes with a side of "Okay, but get back to Dean." This does not mean to ignore Sam or his character development -- see above, re: loving the characters -- but it does mean that I prefer Sam and
Dean over just Sam. Or you could write the fuck out of some side characters and not really get the brothers in it at all, that's cool with me, too (and I'm pretty sure at least one of my prompts was side-character specific).
Can you tell I don't entirely remember what I prompted? 'Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaause I don't. Which should tell you how particular I am about the prompts, really.
Honestly, just get in there and play, and I will probably love what you write to pieces.
Hey guuuuuuuys! So I've mostly been focussing any fic writing this month on my probable spn_j2_bigbang
(topped 25k now! Has almost developed a coherent plot!), but I did manage to scratch out a little bit more of my buddy comedy romp.
So, here, have a little taste of what my head sometimes looks like.
Previous parts, as always, live here
. ( Dean grabbed hold of the twisted, crusty metal of the old helmet. And screamed. . . .Collapse )
I opened an etsy shop.
Check out Alice & Ginger
. 100% handstitched sock creatures for the slightly strange child within us all!
You know those little pics of sock animals I've posted here and there over the years? Here's your opportunity to get your hands on one without winning a fandom charity auction. Ships worldwide (hopefully with properly calculated postage).
I'm sure the terror will eventually fade.
In honor of canon STEALING MY IDEA, have another bit of D&C's BA!
Previous parts can be found here
.( B, E, and a little bit of viking history courtesy of the King of HellCollapse )
It's a little sad that "It's only been two months since I last updated!" is a point of pride on this thing.
Earlier bits are all here
.( In which no further bunnies are harmed, and Dean decides against a little tongue actionCollapse )
I'm fortunate enough to be working in a fed. adjacent job right now instead of an actual fed. job. But we're adjacent enough for things to be reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaally slow, which is why not only are you getting some fic from me, you're getting it in the middle of the day!
Exciting! Dean and Crowley's Big Adventure
Part 3 of ?
Warnings: Dark humor. Bad driving.Part one
| Part two( When we last left our protagonists, they were driving away from civilization, and Crowley was showing his deep, abiding love of rabbitsCollapse )
Still blocked. Have been setting aside timed hours each evening in which to at least stare blankly at the cursor, swapping about between projects depending on my mood. Have managed about 2K of a potential gen AU for spnaubigbang
(haven't signed up yet, but it's a promising start at least, thanks tabaqui
!), a few paragraphs on three or four original projects, and then finished the hour out with this, which is sort of becoming where my brain goes for comfort of not necessarily needing to be good or even so much as make sense.
So, let's make this official: Dean and Crowley's Big Adventure
Part 2 of ?
Warnings: Gore. Very dark humor.
Part one is over thisaway( Crowley sitting in the passenger seat of the Impala made Dean itch.Collapse )
Well, that's its working title, anyway.
Here, have a bit of something I've been poking at in my "no really, I will write regularly!" sessions: ( Two cases of beer. Three pints of ice cream. Fifteen pounds of ground beef. And two of every variety of pie the store soldCollapse )
Other highlights in my quest to conquer my writer's block: Sam'n'Dean v. the Dance Show Poltergeist, with special guest star Charlie, which is pretty super fluffy; a handful of snippets of other bits of SPN ephemera (not the right word at all but I loooove it); a disturbingly autobiographical start to a novel about a young woman who is either haunted by a ghost she thought she made up, or is going insane; bits of scenes from my homoromantic, asexual YA horror adventure novel; several memoirial pieces about my life at day camp as a preteen, among other things; and the start of a melancholy modern fairy tale about a woman going on a quest into her childhood hideaway to rescue her younger self.

( If asked, Dean would probably have put rural upstate New York at pretty much the bottom of the list of places he wanted to be in late December.Collapse )
Sooooo I do this thing, see, when I don't like a character or how they're being written in a canon, I try writing something up from that character's perspective, try to organize them and, well, I guess wank them into shape, as it were. Get into their mindset and understand where they're coming from.
I've mentioned here that I've not been terribly happy with Sam this season.
